I see it important when a parent brings their child in for their first visit, whether they're a year and a half or five years old, whatever time period that might be for that child, that we make that exciting and a fun time for them. If the child presents with any kind of anxiety or nervousness about being in the office, sometimes we just take a peek and get to know them. Maybe we blow up a glove and make a little balloon for them. Maybe we give them a ride in the chair so they can go up and down and lay back and sit up and so forth, make it more of an amusement park type of experience, as much as you can have that in a dental office. Ultimately, we want that child to feel good about coming in and experiencing dental care here.
One way that we have kids come in for a first visit is to come with either a parent when they're having their teeth taken care of or with a sibling, and they can experience what it is that's happening with brother John or sister Sue, whatever it may be, so they can say, “You know what? That's not too bad.” And we can then go ahead and encourage that child to jump up in the chair and let us look around and see what's happening in their mouth and if they're up for it, to clean their teeth as well.
That’s why we encourage you to bring children as young as 2 to our Jackson, MI dentist office. In addition to making sure your child’s mouth and teeth look healthy, we’ll also answer all the questions you have concerning their dental care.

Keeping You and Your Child Happy at the Dentist
We often call your little one’s first few appointments “happy visits” because they are more about getting to know us than offering treatment. And similar to early trips to the pediatrician, we’ll establish a baseline so we can accurately monitor your child’s development as they grow.
We’ll also take all the time you need to discuss teething, cleaning your baby’s teeth and any other issues you’d like to address.
As more teeth come in, we’ll make sure your child’s teeth and mouth are healthy and their bite looks good. We’ll clean and polish their teeth and introduce preventive care like dental sealants, which we apply to back teeth to help prevent decay.
