On your first visit, we think it's really important to identify everything that's going on in someone's mouth and in their whole body. There are a couple of things that we do, in general, with everybody that comes into our office. First, and I think most people expect this, we perform a cavity exam, a gum disease exam, a couple of other things that people don't maybe realize or expect to have would be an oral cancer exam. We also look at a functional exam, or a bite disease exam would be another word for that. We also then take a look at a smile exam, making sure everybody is happy with the way their teeth look. Maybe they are, maybe they aren't, but we always check.
Proactive dentistry saves you time and money. A tooth-colored filling will take care of a small cavity, for example. Bigger cavities will require an inlay, onlay, or a dental crown. If decay gets inside your tooth and leads to infection, you’ll need a root canal. You could even end up losing a tooth.
Let our team keep a watchful eye on your teeth! Call Watterson Family Dentistry at 517-888-0021 to schedule your dental exam and dental cleaning.
We Take a Comprehensive Look at Your Mouth
Our dentists check for issues other than cavities, such as:
- Gum disease
- Oral cancer
- Wear on teeth that can indicate problematic teeth grinding
To ensure we are thorough, we use some of the latest dental technologies, like:
- Digital X-rays, which provide fast and accurate images using a fraction of the radiation of traditional X-rays. We can easily enlarge images if we need a closer look.
- Spectra cavity detection, a digital tool that uses fluorescent technology to detect cavities in their earliest stages.
- VELscope, a tool that identifies tissue abnormalities that may indicate oral cancer.
We Get Your Teeth Clean as a Whistle
Even if you’re a diligent brusher and flosser, it’s tough to reach all the areas where bacteria can collect in your mouth. Our team of dental hygienists gets into all of the nooks and crannies that are easy to miss at home.
If needed, we supplement your dental cleaning with preventive treatments like dental sealants and fluoride applications. While often used for youngsters, these treatments are great for adults with certain conditions too.
